Do you walk the property line with him? Every day? "Lets walk the line" is a fine job. If you wanna send me an email to ohiofarmG at gmail and all... i can give you some more tips. The book should help a lot. I'll do more 'how to' posts also. Its a lot of work but pays off for sure.

CC - I'm always clucking about something. ha!

Thanks Free - comin' up!Ohiofarmgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02606563929369721111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789865586418282697.post-35463268969036235342012-03-18T03:38:13.137-04:002012-03-18T03:38:13.137-04:00You do an amazing job training your dogs. I ...Okay, I gotta tell ya: You are truly my hero. I am dog-training-challenged in the worst way. I've tried training various dogs over the years but never seem to do well. The dogs are smart enough but I always screw it up in some way.

I recently bought one of the Skete Monks books and plan on reading through it. Right now, we have a hardheaded Boston Terrier (worthless inside dog) and a Great Pyr. The great Pyr did great in our old place, guarding us (and goats, chickens, hogs, sheep...) from bad guys and keeping away mountain lions, neighbor dogs, etc. Then we moved here to a small five acres and neighbors. He's had a hard time adjusting to not eating the neighbors. We have had to keep him in a pen and the poor things is bored to death. We're about to get goats again so he'll have a job but I'm not sure I trust him around them or the chickens now. The poor guy is so confused, what little training I managed to do with him before is all mixed up in his head. *sigh*

I'd sure appreciate some (more) general "how to train farm dogs" posts! I know training bear eaters is a bit different from training LGDs but I bet there are some good general ideas we can learn from you.Dianehttp://speedkin.comnoreply@blogger.com
