I just can't find anybody to sell me, or give me, any pork fat and I'm just about out of lard. Being out of lard just isn't acceptable! We've raised them many times in the past and butchered them ourselves and will do so again. How's the creepy meats? Did ya whack 'em yet? I also think when I order my chicks in the spring I may get some turkey poults as well..........My foray "out of homesteading" didn't last long did it. He thinks I'm nuts in my homesteading dreams (or at least the critter part thereof), and decided I need to see/help the "doing of the deed." Would've been appreciated a little bit more if his rifle hadn't kicked to the left a smidge (gut-shot), but it was still a valuable lesson and a morning well spent :DAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789865586418282697.post-63498588881271650742010-11-20T09:03:58.688-05:002010-11-20T09:03:58.688-05:00Wow, sounds like all you need is your own smoke sh...Wow, sounds like all you need is your own smoke shack and you would have the entire procedure handled at home. Maybe they should change that grocery store name from "Giant Eagle" to "Giant Turkey!"
;-)

Glad to see you - feel free to chime in any time, even just to say hi!

We were thinking about Ginger just yesterday - she went to a great family...and how fun we 'found' you too. You just never know who you are going to meet.

Here's a funny example of 'keeping it all in the family' - the meat manager at 'Giant Turkey' (he tipped me off to the sale) is our hay guy. How's that for a small world?

Happy Friday!Ohiofarmgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02606563929369721111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789865586418282697.post-28817667911464344142010-11-19T11:37:18.406-05:002010-11-19T11:37:18.406-05:00Even though I usually just lurk on the blogs and b...Even though I usually just lurk on the blogs and boards I like, I had to comment so I could praise and curse you.....

I'm praising because thanks to your awesome turkey posts, I am parting up and using my borrowed grinder on my fourth of six $4 turkeys today.

I'm cursing you because thanks to your awesome turkey posts, I am parting up and grinding the fourth of six turkeys today. ;o)

I'm of course not really cursing you at all.
