Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

Fat Deb and Tubbie

The ladies are looking large and in charge. You can see that Debbie (the all black, full sized la mancha) is right as rain after her bout with polio. And she is starting to make and udder, which is goat speak for "developing milk in her udder to be ready for the babies."

Nibbles...aka.. Tubbie is hanging LOW.

Hey Tubbie! Those ducks are talking about you!

Pretty soon here we'll be having some new additions to the team. And we'll get our milkers back... Free milk for everyone...at last.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Happy Tuesday, may it be the best day ever!

“All goats are mischievous thieves, gate-crashers, and trespassers. Also they possess individual character, intelligence, and capacity for affection which can only be matched by the dog. Having once become acquainted with them I would as soon farm without a dog as without a goat.”

~ David Mackenzie, Farmer in the Western Isles (1954)

Awwww

Our girls went into heat late so we won't be having babies til at least April... They're in the demanding moody phase right now.

Jealous of incoming babies!

Nibbles appears to be frozen in that pose. Either that or she wants you to get "her good side" for the blog pictures.

How many kids do goats normally have at one time?

My gals are past the demanding phase, Naomi, now they are in the 'grunting' phase. Goats = sheesh!

hi CC! Right now Nibbles doenst have a good side, she's like a big beach ball!

Hi John and welcome! It seems like goats have one big baby, or 2 or 3 kids at a time. Nibbles comes from a line of 'twin throwers' but she is so big she might have 3. Some folks have talked about 'quads' or 'quints' but that would be amazing. Talk about an instant herd!
