Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

The Worst Project Ever

OK its not the worst project ever but today it sure feels like it. Remember when we did all that trenching last fall? While it was wildly successful in that it stopped the water from getting in our basement from our torrential rains last year.....

.....its kinda killin' me right now. The day we did the trenching was basically the last nice, dry day. And since the rest of the winter was a big soggy mess I'm only now been finishing up this project. Slowly but surely I've been clearing out the trenches and filling them with gravel.

This particular section has been a crippler. Luckily the chickens have been helping. I'd type more but I can't because my arms hurt too bad.

Happy Friday everyone! Anyone else shoveling today?

Ohhh, OUCH! We have been putting in drainage as we can afford them...that is hard work! We have about a mile left to go...and MAYBE we wont have a swamp here. Do I see dog butts there! Always on the lookout for momma hu? Good dogs...and getting those chickens to work as well...nice! :)

No trenches. Just some light weeding. Last week I had to clean much out of the pond. THAT was nasty!

Well I'm up to 6 milking does and 9 new kids, does that count?? I still have 7 does to kid yet:)

And yesterday I had a guy with his Bobcat come and clean out the goat barn and put all the "lovely" compost on the garden along with a huge pile of composting horse stall clean out material. I have a raised garden now:)

A MILE!?!? I thought this project was bad... sheesh! and yeah... slowly but surely thats how we're doing it.

Pond cleaning - ick. Did the ducks help, Linda?

Hi Dave! And yep if supervising means wandering around peeing on everything. ;-) That hen was the bossy one tho...
