Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

Scenes from a snowy day

It snowed all last nite and we woke up to windchills and single digits. Per our norm with our cold weather care we didn't charge right out there to get everyone up at dawn's early light. Especially since they started black powder/muzzle load deer season today.. so we took our good old time.  Here's what happened...

First the dogs dogged around.. alot.

There was a lot of running around. See that our little Kai got a harness.. or as we say, a handle.

Then the hens decided that running right out in the snow wasn't such a great idea so...they had an inside day. I love all the activity here. See Mr. Tibbles (the rooster by the door) is shaking his mane, one of  the hens is getting a drink, there is a lot of pecking around by the ladies, Little Pansy (big white roo) is inspecting something, and that crazy black hen is giving me a crazy look.

The ducks sat in the snow...

...and the geese took a bath like it was 70* and sunny.  And yeah.. thats OD givin' me the stink eye. Penny is our momma goose - the grey Toulouse on the left. I just love her. She has a funny wing and a wonky walk but she's a good old gal for sure. And I love the spotted younger ones.

As for us - we got a load of wood and are now sitting around enjoying the fire and watching it snow.. again. Oh look... single digits again and more windchill... how many more days until spring?

It looks like you are getting our left over snow! Enjoy! Our hens are doing the same thing, and our horses are knee deep. Guess what? It's still snowing! Stay warm.

Here it seems spring has arrived, although I'm sure it's false dawning. Anyway, gotta get out there and do some work, before the weather changes it's mind.

Hey Ohiofarmgirl, found you reading comments at Cold Antler farm. Love your dogs, they're beautiful. Looks like they could help pull me out of a snow drift here in South Dakota. 70 days till spring, hang in there...that's all we can do!

I'm with ya, girl! We've been blizzarding for 2 days now up here in Western Canada. That's the trouble with the prairies - no trees to catch the snow and wind.

are the spotted ones just Tulouse/Roman crosses? they are beautiful!

hi VRT! I wish we had your warm snap..lucky you to be working in the dirt! (even if it is in the green house..I'd love it!)

Hi Janis! Thanks for stopping by...WOW look at your cows! I love jerseys..the cream is heavenly.

Nice to meet you, Sall.. only 70 days? ugh! I'll never make it... thanks for the snow - it gets here tomorrow. Brrrrr.... But you are just right, we are all in the together. Onward and upward!

Hi BYB/BibBird! The geese are mostly Roman/Toulouse... our Penny has a checkered history and had a mad affair one winter with a Roman Romeo while OD was incarcerated for murder. Oh gosh.. that sounds like a story I should tell... hum....

Thanks OFG :) Not sure why you can't list it, but I know I have problems between Wordpress and Blogspot sometimes! Good luck with all of the snow coming your way.
