Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

A berry good day!

What an auspicious day! The very first blueberry made its appearance today!

I'm thrilled. I love love love blueberries and I'll be watching very carefully for that hap-hap-happy day when I can make my first pie! One of my favorite people in all of the wide world is The Blueberry Kid. And he has two Blueberry Boys - my happiest day is when they can all come to our little farm and pick blueberries with me. We'll laugh and share a picking bucket - then go inside and make a pie. There will be lots of ham and pie and chasing chickens and snuggling ducks. Yes, siree - that's going to be my happiest day.

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you've got a cool morning, a sunny day, and easy-peasy evening chores!

You won't believe this, but we saw our first ripe blueberry yesterday too!

That sounds so weird to me. The blueberries just flowered here last week. It'll be at least a month before we see berries.

I hope that you have a very berry weekend. We got 4 straight hours of continuous rain!!!

That blueberry looks like it wants to be plucked and put into a pie...my berries are ripening tool, but I don't have enough to make a pie..maybe a dish with some cream in it ...oh well, maybe next year I'll have more, mine has to grow up a bit.

Congrats J! Happy first berry day!

Wow, Wendy.... I'll have a few for you until yours are ready.

Robin, your garden must be booming!

Ginny, I'll be by later for some berries and cream - sounds heavenly!

CC - you got it baby!

SFG - I'll be out guarding them from the birds! Actually I need to put a cover over them.

Oh boy! I was expecting more from our blueberries this year, but they look decidedly unhappy, despite being heaped with manure! Their leaves are yellow and veiny, and no blossoms or fruit in evidence... boo! :(
