Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

How to Make Your Own Backyard Clay Oven - by Gavin

One of the best things about being part of Farmer Liz's series on how to get starting growing your own was meeting some of the other folks she interviewed. I was really glad to "meet" Gavin in his interview here.

Gavin has a great site here with tons of information on getting started growing your own even if you live in town. He had done terrific work on his urban farm. And he makes cheese.

But what really caught my attention was the video he made of How to Make a Cob Oven. It's seven minutes of amazement. After I watched it I thought.... "I can do that!"

I've wanted to make an outside pizza/bread oven for a while now and this is post and video was terrific inspiration - and instruction - on how to do it.

The best part is - he has an ebook with instructions on how to build one!  The ebook is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and some other places too. You can also buy direct to get a .pdf version directly from his site. Click on this link to see how and where to purchase. How great is that?

If you have ever thought about this project you've got to check out the video to see how its done.

Thanks Gavin for a great site and a wonderful post about how to build your own backyard clay oven!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Might be a "pizza oven" but looks like a corner stone for outdoor cooking in general. Great on those sultry summer nights!

OFG--
I had the opportunity to take a cob oven building hands on workshop this past summer. We all made a vow to go around to each others houses next summer and build one at each home!! It was fun and they are great, and oh!--now I'm all "fired up" about it all over again! lol

I've always wanted to...and this seems possible.

I know, Dave! Isn't it stunning!?!

Hey Akannie! How great about the workshop - what a great idea about everyone helping. I'm "fired up" too!

Yep, Samantha, we can do this project.
