Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

Hatching!

New arrivals! This just in from a few moments ago...

Look who's hatching in our incubator!  I think we have about a dozen new little buddies so far and more on the way. These little guys are getting nice and dry - then I'll move them to a brooder. Having a few troops in the incubator will stimulate the other chicks to bust out of their pods... I mean... eggs.

These babies are just "mutt chicks" from our mix of chickens in the yard. But we've had some good hatchlings and in fact, we are working toward a "custom" chicken for our farm. Several of Floppy's Five from last fall turned out to be spectacular hens. But more on that later - I need to run back downstairs and see if we have any more new arrivals!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Did anyone else have a hatch recently?

Great job! The mixed ones always hatch better.

That's great! I love when they start hatching. It's just like opening presents at Christmas. lol

Oh Farm Guru (see what I did there?), any recommendations on incubator brands. They only carry Little Giant at TSC, and it had good reviews on their site.

Hi Ginny! hee hee hee its a good thing your eggs ARENT doing anything! hee hee hee I'd laugh a lot if they were dancing around in there!

Rae - I just LOVE the peeping.

Thanks Becky! I think we did OK but I'm not sure anymore are going to hatch.

SFG - it is like Christmas! But the presents open themselves.

hey Jeff! We just have one of those cheapy (cheep-y?) styrofoam ones. I still cant believe it works.
