Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

Oh no I didn't... Oh yes I did.

Oh yes I did. Come on, admit it....

... how many of you panicked when you heard that Hostess declared Chapter 11 and may go belly up?  Did you run right out and buy yourself a box of Ho-Ho's or Ding Dong's or Twinkies or what not?

Liars.

Sure you did. We saw you huddled around the same end cap at the local Safeway or Kroger or PigglyWiggly or what not trying to decide which one to buy. I know because we saw you there. Why, we were standing next to you doing the same thing.

All of us, about the same age, nervously laughing about "do we or don't we"? Then we all walked away with a box of memories in our carts.

I have to tell you tho. After about 5 or 6 of them Ho-Ho's I remembered why I hadn't had one in about 20 years. I nearly died to tell you the truth. I think I might stick with that Michael Pollan's idea of making my own junk food from now on.

While I ain't got any particular love for Twinkies, deep fried or not, I do hope that our grand ol' gal, Hostess, makes it out of bankruptcy and doesn't end in a fizzle.

Well now, you can deny it all if you like but if you didn't buy yourself a box of Hostess whatevers, I'm sure you thought about it. Go on now and admit it. If not, there'll be an alter call for all you liars later.

Ho-Ho's just aren't the same with out the foil wrapper so I do believe that I've had my last one. Goodnite, sweet Hostess, and good luck!

Any body else give themselves a headache with bad snack cake choices? Happy Thursday!

Not a Hostess product, but I admit to indulging in a brown sugar cinnamon PopTart recently. They are magical.

I didn't.

Nope, not lying.

1. Not willing to pay the $4 a box it costs for them at our local grocery and

2. I totally missed that they filed chapter 11 so was clueless.

But I will admit I do enjoy a twinkie and if I had know, I probably would have run right out and nabbed a box.

I didn't know about this. I certainly hope that "The Italian" doesn't know. I guess that I better check the trunk of the car when he gets home tonight. He just loves that stuff!

Oh yes I did too! Only I'm saving mine for a special occasion, maybe retirement in 2042!

THAT'S why the Ho-ho's seemed different! I hadn't bought them in a while (well, a long while) and admittedly did have DH pick up a box on his way home at the "day old" store. Something just seemed weird. NO FOIL WRAPPING! That was the best (well, not really) part of it; opening the foil wrappers soooo carefully as not to rip any of it. Not sure why, it's not like I saved it for anything.

But I agree, my intestines did NOT care for my Ho-ho binge. Maybe I'll look up a recipe for real, homemade ho-ho's.

hmm I think making home made ho-ho's would be fun!

I'll admit that there have been poptarts in our house, Vicki. But I'm not the one eating them!

But now you're thinking about it, right, Aly?

Robin, there's just something about a snack cake. I'd check in the garage too - my hubby used to hide his snacks from me out there.

HDA, you are just right! ha!

Watch that b/s now, Ginny! There's nothing like a little snack, tho. ;-)

Jody, they will probably still be good! ha!

Thats hilarious, Carolyn, thats why I liked them too! I think we used to fold the foil over and over into shapes and stuff. hee hee hee

Dave, we need some good ol' home made junk food for sure. Now all I can think about is chocolate cake....

I practically grew up on the orange cupcakes. Every once in a while, I buy one. They are almost sickenly sweet to me now.

We soooo need a trip to Mrs. Yoders...

Jeff - can you believe we all survived our childhoods? Can you believe they let us eat all that. ha!
