Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

Funny things in the garden....

I found a few funny things in the garden.....

First, I have heaps of tomatoes... all green.....

Except this one that is just about ripe!

Pears! The only ones...

Then I was completely surprised to find two pears! I didn't think we were going to have any fruit this year. That extremely late frost really killed off everything... except that one peach... that the bugs got.

These two pears are from a recently planted pear and not our established tree which usually has tons of fruit. Except this year. It has exactly none right now.

Then I found THIS! Um.......

I wonder where this came from?

So that's a goose egg (shoe for scale). I have no idea how or when it got there. But I'm glad I didn't step on it! Pretty sure it's been there a while. The question was... what do I do with it?

Picking up a rotten egg can be dicey. It might explode... or ooze... ew!  So I got a container and a shovel and carefully moved it. I dug a hole and then gently put it in... and then planted a tomato over it. I had one mater left in a dried out pot.. but might as well try, right?

Then there are these characters.....

OD! Get out of my picture!

The Gang of Nine are all a bunch of gangsters. However, they are doing a great job of weeding around my established plants. Their little feet are the right size to stir up the soil and not rip up the roots. However, they have eaten just about all of my lettuce.

The momma leads this Gang all over. They are doing great!

We have a cool morning so I'm heading out!

Happy Monday everyone! Did you find anything funny in the garden?

Nothing funny. Only massive greenness. Back to the salt mine for me.

No nothing funny here, except that Lester took the 'broken' chainsaw into the repair shop and the repair man started it first time after Lester having spent two days trying to 'mend' it. Lester said that he blushed with embarrassment!

I keep peeking under the cabbages to see if chicks have hatched yet. That will be a big happy suprise when that happens.

Found a hole under my fence, broken egg shells in the garden and no eggs in the chicken house.

I have the same green tomatoes. If they ever ripen I'll be in trouble.
