Ohiofarmgirl's Adventures in The Good Land is largely a fish out of water tale about how I eventually found my footing on a small farm in an Amish town. We are a mostly organic, somewhat self sufficient, sustainable farm in Ohio. There's action and adventure and I'll always tell you the truth about farming.

A cup of cheer

We've had some hard days lately here in The Good Land. Times will turn around soon, I'm sure, but I found myself needing a little 'pick me up' last nite. Thought I'd share with all of you good folks.

Sure this looks innocent...

My mom was a military wife and led the party train back in the day. She had a Hot Buttered Rum recipe that would render even the most hearty fighter pilot weak in the knees. I didn't have the time or the patience last nite to fix it up right. But this is a good knock off.

Quick Hot Buttered Rum

1. Fill a merry mug with a stiff shot of whatever booze you got on hand. I recommend your husband's most expensive sippin' bourbon. Or any kind of rot gut brandy or rum will do.
2. Add a teaspoon of brown sugar, a pinch of nutmeg, and a splash of vanilla.
3. Next add a scoop of vanilla ice cream
4. Fill the rest of the way with boiling water from the kettle.

Give a few quick stirs to melt the ice cream, sprinkle with a shake of cinnamon, and have some holiday cheer.

I'm writing this on Saturday morning before second breakfast, so you should probably wait until later in the day to make one up. What am I saying?  Heck, its 5-O-Clock somewhere... Just pretend you're at Grandpa's - I think he's in the right time zone for an evening hot toddy.

Happy cup of cheer everyone!

Second breakfast? Is the Good Land part of the Shire?

That sounds just the sort of thing I could do with. It's not as cold here as with you, but our house doesn't get very warm in the winter... Maybe I pretend I'm in Moscow now, where it is about the right time zone and a heck of a lot colder!

That sounds heavenly. Just what the doctor ordered for a cold, blustery winter day.

Mmmm Boy! That looks delicious! It sure would be nice to have one right now. It's so cold it snowed here in Virginia last night. Thankfully, it was just a dusting. Brrr!

OFG! This is great (the recipe, I mean, and of course the shout-out too) thanks!
I used to take rum with coke, now I know another use for it! You are right, it's that time of the day... will think of you while I'm sipping the hot stuff. Thanks again, OFG
